A Backyard Baby Shower Celebration in North Hollywood

The moment I pulled up to A & H’s home in North Hollywood, I could already sense that this baby shower was going to be something special. The backyard was still quiet, but the setup was almost complete, and I had the chance to soak in all the little details before guests arrived. That quiet before the celebration, it’s one of my favorite things to capture. The calm, the anticipation, the thoughtful touches that often go unnoticed once the party’s in full swing.

H’s mom, along with Hannah and Fio from Talk About a Party, had truly transformed the already beautiful backyard space. The theme was “An Adventure Awaits,” and it couldn’t have been more perfect. Not just because of the charming travel-inspired decor, but because it mirrored A & H’s real life. These two are travelers, adventurers, the kind of couple who squeeze every drop of joy out of life. And judging by the guest list and the effort put into this day, their baby is already surrounded by a whole community ready to love and support them on whatever path they choose. It felt like the beginning of something really beautiful.

The backyard was transformed into something out of a dream: maps and globes tucked into the decor, tiny suitcases used as centerpieces, and signs with sweet sayings that nodded to the journey ahead. Everywhere you looked, you could see how much thought and care had gone into it (and you might even spot a hidden pacifier!). And it wasn’t just the decor, the food was unforgettable. Guests ate fresh hand rolls from Nori, cheesy, made-to-order handmade black tortilla quesadillas from Alejandra’s Quesadillas, and finished it off with boxes of pastries from Porto’s Bakery (because no LA baby shower is complete without Portos, let’s be honest).

As a couple and family photographer in Los Angeles, I get invited into a lot of these moments but this one stuck with me. Not just because it was beautiful (which it was), but because it was so full of heart. The way H beamed when she hugged her mom. The way A kept checking in on guests, making sure everyone felt welcome. The way people had flown in from different states just to be there. You don’t always get to see that kind of love in action. It was special.

The light was perfect. The energy was soft and joyful. And as I stood back with my camera, watching this soon-to-be family surrounded by their people, I knew the photos would tell a story their baby could someday look back on and see just how loved they were, even before they arrived.

If you're planning a baby shower in Los Angeles or the surrounding areas, whether it’s a backyard celebration or a big venue bash, I’d love to document it for you. These moments are more than decorations and cake (though those help!) they’re about connection, about family, about capturing the love that already surrounds your baby.

Let’s tell your story. Inquire here to check availability. I’d be honored to photograph your next big moment.
