What to Expect From Your Senior Portrait Experience | Senior Pictures in Richmond, Indiana

Senior year goes by fast. One minute you're watching your child walk into kindergarten with a backpack bigger than they are, and suddenly you're planning their senior pictures. And while senior portraits are technically about photographs, the experience should be about so much more than just standing in front of a camera and smiling.

If you're looking for senior pictures in Richmond, Indiana, here’s what you can expect from a senior portrait experience with Laini Photo: from planning your session to receiving your final images.

This Is About You

Your senior portraits should not look like everyone else’s.

Maybe you’re into sports, music, art, fashion, or just hanging out with your friends. Maybe you already know exactly what you want. Or maybe you have no idea where to start. That’s completely okay. My job is to help you create images that feel like you in this season of life, not a cookie-cutter version of what senior photos are “supposed” to look like.

We’ll talk about your personality, your comfort level, and the vibe you want your session to have so everything feels natural and personal.

Planning Your Senior Session

Once you’re booked, we’ll plan everything together so you don’t feel overwhelmed.

We’ll go over:

  • Location options in Richmond, Indiana

  • Outfits and styling

  • Hair and makeup (if you want it)

  • Props or personal items

  • Your overall vision and vibe

  • Any hobbies or interests you want included

You don’t need a full Pinterest board. If you have ideas, great. If not, I’ll guide you through it.

What to Wear for Senior Pictures

This is one of the most common questions I get.

The simple answer: bring options.

I usually recommend a few different looks so your gallery has variety:

  • One outfit that feels like your everyday style

  • One slightly dressier outfit

  • One fun or bold outfit

  • A casual, comfortable look

  • Anything meaningful (sports uniform, instrument, etc.)

The most important thing is that you feel confident. If you live in jeans and sneakers, wear that. If you love a certain jacket or style, bring it. You don’t need to dress like someone else for your senior photos.

What the Session Feels Like

Most people worry about posing, with me you don’t need to. I’ll guide you through everything so you’re never standing there wondering what to do. We’ll move, walk, laugh, change positions, and keep things natural so it never feels stiff or awkward.

I’ll tell you where to look, how to stand, and what to do with your hands. If something doesn’t feel right, we’ll adjust it. The goal is for you to relax and eventually forget the camera is even there.

You Don’t Have to Be “Photogenic”

There’s no such thing as being “bad at photos.” Most people who feel awkward in front of the camera just haven’t had someone guide them through it before. You don’t need experience. You don’t need to know how to pose. You don’t need to feel 100% confident before you show up. My job is to walk you through the process and show you what everyone else sees when they look at you: the strong, beautiful, unique person you are.

Almost everyone is nervous at the start of their session. That’s normal. Within a few minutes, most seniors relax and start having fun. And usually, by the end, they say something like, “That was actually really fun.” That’s always the goal.

What Makes Senior Photos Special

Senior portraits aren’t just about getting a nice photo for graduation announcements. They’re about capturing a moment in time that only happens once. This is the version of you right before everything changes: graduation, college, new jobs, new places, new people.

These photos become a way to remember not just what you looked like, but who you were.

Yes, you’ll use these images for announcements, yearbooks, and social media. But years from now, they’ll mean something different.

You’ll look back and remember this exact stage of life the personality, the style, the energy, and the transition into adulthood. That’s what senior portraits are really about.

Including What Matters to You

One of the best parts of senior sessions is making them personal.

We can include things like:

  • Sports and athletic gear

  • Musical instruments

  • Cars or trucks

  • Books or hobbies

  • Pets

  • Anything meaningful to you

These details help tell your story and make your session feel unique.

For Parents

Parents, you’re part of this too.

I know senior year is emotional. This is a big milestone, and it can feel like time is moving too fast.

I’ll make the process easy and clear so you know what to expect. Your senior will be guided the entire time, and we’ll make sure they feel comfortable and confident. If you want a few family photos during the session, we can absolutely include that as well.

If you’re looking for a Richmond, Indiana senior photographer who focuses on natural, personal, and relaxed senior portraits, I’d love to work with you.
